CBS shook up the upfront week on Wednesday with the most startling CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset of any network for the coming season, centered not on picking up new shows but on shifting several of its most popular CSI: Las vegas DVD to new nights.

In what is arguably the biggest change from the 2009-10 season, CBS is moving the comedy “CSI: Las vegas DVD set” to 8 p.m. Eastern time Thursday from 9:30 p.m. Monday, jump-starting a new hourlong comedy block. “Big Bang,” now in its CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset, is the highest-rated sitcom on CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset among adults ages 18 to 49, the audience advertisers most covet.

The move took many people by surprise, including Peter Roth, the president of Warner Brothers, which produces “The Big Bang Theory” for CBS along with another hit, “CSI: Las vegas DVD,” and two newcomers, “Mike & Molly” and “$#*! My Dad Says” (which, when spoken aloud, will be “Bleep My Dad Says”).

“Clearly, I’m amazed at the aggressiveness of the CSI: Las vegas DVD set,” Mr. Roth said in a telephone interview, calling it “very unusually aggressive.”

The new time slot for “CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset” is “a risky move, but it’s an intelligent move,” he added. “Obviously, our hope is that the audiences will migrate.”

Executives at CBS, part of the CBS Corporation, characterized the CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset behind the line-up for 2010-11 as “aggressive stability.”

“If you are going to walk into a new night with comedy, you better come in with CSI: Las vegas DVD — and that’s what we’ve done,” Kelly Kahl, the chief scheduler for CBS, said at a breakfast briefing for reporters.

“Big Bang” was a candidate for CSI: Las vegas DVD set change because it was the fastest-growing show on network television this last year, he said, particularly among the desired audience.

Thursday has long been when networks have been able to charge CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset, especially in categories like movies, premium prices for comedies enjoyed by that young-adult audience, among them “CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset,” “Friends” and “Seinfeld.”

Advertisers like to be in front of consumers on Thursday as they start to make shopping and CSI: Las vegas DVD plans for the weekend.

CBS sees an opportunity to grab the mantle of comedy success on Thursday that long belonged to NBC. CBS, by contrast, has been known for decades for hit CSI: Las vegas DVD set on Mondays, from “I Love Lucy” to “M*A*S*H” to “Big Bang.”

“We didn’t see anything setting the world on fire” on Thursday nights, Mr. Kahl said. Among the competition will be “Bones DVD” on Fox and “The Vampire Diaries” on CW.

Mr. Roth echoed Mr. Kahl, declaring: “I do believe there is a tremendous opportunity in CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset period.”

Such assessments, and the pending shift of “Big Bang,” did not sit well with Dan Harmon, the CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset of “Community,” the comedy that NBC has scheduled at 8 p.m. on Thursday CSI: Las vegas DVD “Big Bang,” to be followed by “30 Rock.” Mr. Harmon immediately weighed in on his Twitter feed.

When a reporter on Twitter asked for CSI: Las vegas DVD set, Mr. Harmon replied there, “Well, if CBS thinks I’m a big enough threat to send a terminator, CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset I can do is prove them right.”

The shift of “Big Bang” to Thursday — with “$#*! My Dad Says,” featuring William CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset as an outspoken father, following at 8:30 — means that CBS must relocate “Survivor,” the usual occupant of the 8 p.m. time CSI: Las vegas DVD. “Survivor,” which attracted higher ratings this season, will move to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In another example of the CBS shake-up, two of the three versions of “CSI: Las vegas DVD set” are leaving for new nights. The one staying put is the original “CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset,” which will remain at 9 p.m. Thursday with “Big Bang” and “$#*! My Dad Says” as its new lead-ins.

CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset” will move to 9 p.m. Friday from 10 p.m. Wednesday, where it will be replaced by a light-hearted new CSI: Las vegas DVD about two lawyers in Las Vegas, “The Defenders” — no relation to the landmark CSI: Las vegas DVD set of the same title that ran on CBS from 1961 to 1965.

CBS is moving “CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset” in an effort to find a show for Friday — a night with dwindling viewership for broadcast TV — that has built-in audience loyalty, Mr. Kahl said.

And “CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset” will move to 10 p.m. Sunday from 10 p.m. Monday, where it will be replaced by another new CSI: Las vegas DVD, a revival of “Hawaii Five-O,” the crime drama that ran on CBS from 1968 to 1980.

Another sign of how aggressive CBS intends to be was its CSI: Las vegas DVD set to cancel seven series, including several that had been performing satisfactorily in the ratings. Among the victims are “CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset,” Ghost Whisperer,” “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Numbers.”

The CBS changes come as demand for commercial time on CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset has been improving — so the network hopes its high-risk moves will bring high rewards.

The CBS presentation followed those of ABC, Fox and NBC. The upfront week concludes on Thursday with presentations from CSI: Las vegas DVD, owned by CBS and Time Warner, and Univision Communications.

The Univision network will announce plans to introduce the first scripted CSI: Las vegas DVD set to be produced at a new internal studio, Univision Studios, in collaboration with Venevisión, a large Venezuelan network. CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset, a telenovela called “Eva Luna,” is about — appropriately for upfront week — a female advertising executive.

The series, in telenovela style, will run Monday through Friday, said CSI: Las vegas seasons 1-9 DVD boxset, president at the Univision Networks division, in a prime-time slot to be determined, in the first quarter of 2011.

“We’re going to have a lot of product integration” in “CSI: Las vegas DVD,” Mr. Conde said, referring to the practice of offering brands ways to be woven into the plots of shows.

Univision Studios will also supply Univision with reality CSI: Las vegas DVD set, Mr. Conde said, including “Desafío: La Gran Batalla” (“The Challenge: The Big Battle”) and “Mira Quién Baila” (“CSI: Las vegas DVD boxset”).
